宝永年間より箪笥づくりが行われてきた広島・府中。大正のころには百数十軒もの箪笥職人が軒を連ね、早朝から夜更けまでノミやカンナを使う音が絶えなかったといいます。耐久性を高める伝統的な技巧や、木目の風合いを生かす仕上げの技は、府中の家具職人のあいだで連綿と受け継がれてきました。 彼らの伝統の技とアメリカ広葉樹という素材が、２１世紀のいま出会いました。

Wood cabinetry has been made in Fichu, Hiroshima, since the early eighteenth century, By the start of the last century, well over a hundred craftsmen lived in this city, and the sound of chisels and planes could be heard from early morning till sundown. The skills developed and handed down over time include sturdy joinery and finishes that bring out the grain and texture of each type of wood. These traditions are lavished now, in the new millennium, on these works made with American hardwoods.
